Don’t second guess yourself if these look a lot like an Air Jordan 4 White/Varsity Red. The roots of the Nike Air Flight 89 LE White/Red have a lot to do with that shoe.
These are a retro of an original colorway of the Flight 89 and ship with white laces.
The mid and outsole of this shoe takes direct inspiration from the Jordan model that was out in 1989, the Air Jordan IV. The Flight ’89 was meant for MJ, but instead he mostly wore the AJIV, while players like Reggie Miller and Chris Mullin wore these. This was the last non-AJ that mirrored the silhouette of an Air Jordan sneaker as Jordan brand and the Jumpman became reality around this point.
I’ve been waiting for a White/Red pair of Air Jordan IVs to finally release with the Nike Air on the back. Until then, I’ll have to be happy with these, which are a nice shoe in their own right. I actually slept on the last retro and regretted it, so I’m glad these have finally dropped again so I can get a chance to own a pair.
How Are The Materials?
The materials definitely are basic Nike Sportswear leather on the upper. I definitely would not buy these thinking I was going to get premium leather, as the original release and subsequent retros have all been more “standard” than “luxe”. Overall, I’d get these strictly for the looks/nostalgia, as while the quality is acceptable, this definitely is not a premium shoe.
How Do They Fit?
These Nike Air Flight 89 LE White/Red fit similar to the Air Jordan 4 on which it is based. Therefore, I prefer a half size up to prevent pinky rub. Your foot shape may be different and you may be able to go true to size. Personally, I’d rather not risk it. At a half size up, these fit very comfortably for me for retro technology, with little to no break-in required.
